Delaware Earthquake December 2017

The 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of the United States yesterday, a rare seismic incident according to the US Geological Survey Center (USGS). The shock was initially reported at 5.1 magnitude and decreased to 4.4 magnitude centered at the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, according to a statement from the Delaware Emergency Management Agency.

It is less than 17 kilometers (km) from Dover town and less than half a mile from Donas Landing. So far no injury or damage has been reported, officials said. It is felt in Philadelphia in the neighboring Pennsylvania state, about 85 km from the center of the quake. The shallow quake at the 8 km depth, was also felt in areas around New York City and Baltimore, according to the USGS website.
